PAGE 1.  PANEL 3.
ONE OF THE SHADOWS IS NOW VERY CLOSE TO KALLISTE, AND WE SEE A LARGE CRESCENT WRENCH.

KALLISTE (CAPTION):  “Too soundly.”

SHADOW 1:  Tell the captain we have a stowaway.

SHADOW 2:  She looks like a pretty one.

SHADOW 1:  Believe me, best just to get the captain.

PAGE 1.  PANEL 4.
KALLISTE IS BEING MARCHED INTO THE CHOW HALL, HER HANDS ARE TIED, SHADOW 1, Maxime, IS REVEALED TO BE A LARGE BLACK MAN, AND THE SECOND SHADOW IS A THAI MAN, ARAN.  ALL WE SEE IS THE CAPTAIN’S HANDS, BROWN, FOLDED ON THE TABLE.

CAPTAIN JULIO:  Another stowaway.  You’re lucky it was my ship, girl.

KALLISTE:  And you’re lucky I don’t feel like slipping this weak handcuff knot and
reduce your crew by a few members.

CAPTAIN JULIO:  I always tell Maxime to tie it tighter.  Thank you Maxime, Aran, you
may go.  I will talk with her.

PAGE 1.  PANEL 5.
CAPTAIN JULIO AND KALLISTE LOOK AT EACH OTHER.
DIALOGUE CONT.

CAPTAIN JULIO:  I’m surprised to get a stowaway leaving America.

KALLISTE:  It’s worn me down.  I was thinking about going home.

CAPTAIN JULIO:  Where is that?

KALLISTE:  You can just drop me off in the middle of the ocean, that’s where I think it
                      was.

CAPTAIN JULIO:  Haha.  No, no, we are to treat you humanely.  Tell me your story, we
                                 have time.

KALLISTE:  There is always time, too much of it in fact.

PAGE 2.  PANEL 1.
KALLISTE IS RIDING PASSENGER IN A TRUCK, THERE IS ANOTHER WOMAN, GLENDA, WHO IS DRIVING THE TRUCK, WE SEE THEM DRIVING UP TO A MILITARY SHIP CONSTRUCTION SITE.

KALLISTE (CAPTION):  “I like this ship.  Let me tell you about the last time I was on a
                                             ship…”

PAGE 2.  PANEL 2.
KALLISTE AND GLENDA ARE BOTH LEAVING THE TRUCK, AND HEADING TOWARDS THE WORK SITE.

KALLISTE:  Thanks again for the ride.

GLENDA:  You’re the only one who will ride with me, so thank you.

KALLISTE:  Forget them, Glenda.  You’re alright by me.

GLENDA:  You’re too sweet Kelly.

PAGE 2.  PANEL 3.
KALLISTE IS HOLDING A PIECE OF METAL AS GLENDA PUTS RIVETS INTO IT.  THE WORK WHISTLE SOUNDS.

GLENDA:  Lunch.

KALLISTE:  Thank god.  The way I’m working, I’m going to be stronger than The Great
                      Sandow

GLENDA:  You and me both.  You got a cigarette?

KALLISTE:  Yeah.

PAGE 2.  PANEL 4.
GLENDA AND KALLISTE ARE SMOKING, THEIR LUNCH BOXES ARE EMPTY, SHOWING THAT THEY HAVE ALREADY EATEN.

GLENDA:  You still haven’t met Jimmy.  You can eat at my mom’s tonight, he’d love to
                    meet you.

KALLISTE:  Yeah, sounds good.

GLENDA:  Mom’ll be happy to finally meet you too.  It’s you’re all I talk about.

KALLISTE:  Not much time out?

DIALOGUE CONT.

GLENDA:  Too many other things to deal with.

PAGE 2.  PANEL 5.
GLENDA IS TENDING TO JIMMY’S WHOOPING COUGH AT THE DINNER TABLE.  KALLISTE LOOKS CONCERNED.  GLENDA’S MOTHER, YOLANDA, LOOKS AT KALLISTE.
JIMMY IS A SICKLY FIVE YEAR-OLD.  YOU CAN TELL THE WHOOPING COUGH HAS TAKEN IT’S AFFECT ON HIM.

YOLANDA:  Do you have any children?

KALLISTE:  No ma’am.

YOLANDA:  It’s better that way right now.  Who knows if the father would even come
                       back.  Just like Jimmy’s father.

GLENDA:  Mother, please…

PAGE 3.  PANEL 1.
KALLISTE IS LETTING JIMMY BOX WITH HER, LETTING HIM THROW PUNCHES AT HER HANDS.

KALLISTE:  That’s it, keep your right hand up when your left hand is jabbing.

PAGE 3.  PANEL 2.
JIMMY BEGINS TO COUGH AGAIN, VIOLENTLY.  YOLANDA SCOOPS HIM UP.

YOLANDA:  He shouldn’t be exerting himself.

KALLISTE:  Oh god, I’m sorry.

GLENDA:  I’ll—

YOLANDA:  No, entertain your guest, I got him.

PAGE 3.  PANEL 3.
KALLISTE AND GLENDA ARE BOTH SMOKING OUTSIDE ON THE PORCH.

KALLISTE:  You never told me his dad died in the war.

GLENDA:  Because he didn’t, or at least I don’t think he has.  You’d have to ask Alice.

KALLISTE:  You didn’t?

GLENDA:  He wasn’t wearing a ring, we were new to the neighborhood, and I just
thought he was so nice.  He wasn’t wearing any ring.

PAGE 3.  PANEL 4.
KALLISTE IS LEANING AGAINST THE RAILING OF THE PORCH.

KALLISTE:  Is this why  I’m your only passenger?

GLENDA:  Yeah…none of the other women can stand me for what I did.

KALLISTE:  Of course Bob is getting pats on the back from the boys while you get
talked about.  Ain’t it always the way.

PAGE 3.  PANEL 5.
A PLANE IS FLYING OVER, GLENDA POINTS TO IT.

GLENDA:  That’s what I really want to do.

KALLISTE:  Like Amelia.

DIALOGUE CONT.

GLENDA:  Yeah.  But with Jimmy here and the war going on, how could I ever do that?

KALLISTE:  It didn’t hurt that they were affluent as fuck.

GLENDA:  Haha.  I love the way you talk.  So honest.

PAGE 4.  PANEL 1.
KALLSITE IS LOOKING AT THE CAPTAIN.

KALLISTE:  That’s me, all honesty.

CAPTAIN JULIO:  You haven’t told me much, girl.  Is that the story of your
                                  grandmother?

KALLISTE:  If that works for you.  Is there anyway I can get something to eat?  Normally I’d steal it from the mess…

PAGE 4.  PANEL 2.
KALLISTE HOLD UP HER HANDS TO SHOW THAT THEY ARE STILL TIED.

KALLISTE: …but, you know.

PAGE 4.  PANEL 3.
THE CAPTAIN CUTS THE ROPES.

CAPTAIN JULIO:  You can walk around without any worry of my men.  But at night
you must go into the brig, is that clear?

KALLISTE:  No offense, but the little Asian one was giving me a look so—

CAPTAIN JULIO:  He is new.  He does not know my policy for harassment of someone
                                 in my charge.

PAGE 4.  PANEL 4.
KALLISTE LOOKS AT THE CAPTAIN WHILE RUBS HER WRISTS, HE HOLDS THE ROPE.  THERE ARE TWO LOW HANGING LOOPS IN THE ROPE, REPRESENTING TESTICLES.

PAGE 5.  PANEL 1.
CAPTAIN JULIO IS SHOWING KALLISTE AROUND THE SHIP, THEY ARE NEAR THE EDGE, WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE WATER.

KALLISTE:  I hate the ocean.  It’s so endless.  But I love ships and the water.  People,
                      huh?

CAPTAIN JULIO:  I have found that they are always difficult to understand, no matter
age, gender, religion, or ethnicity.  We are puzzles.

PAGE 5.  PANEL 2.
KALLISTE LOOKS AT HER WRIST, THE INVISIBILITY KANJI IS PROMINENT.  CAPTAIN JULIO NOTICES.

CAPTAIN JULIO:  Did you actually get that in Japan?

KALLISTE:  Yes.  A while back.  It was a reminder that I need to lay low, because all I
                      cause is pain.

CAPTAIN JULIO:  That’s all we cause to each other.  Hedgehog’s dilemma I’m afraid.

PAGE 5.  PANEL 3.
KALLISTE IS FOLLOWING THE CAPTAIN UP THE STAIRS TO THE BRIDGE.

KALLISTE:  How long have you been on the water?

CAPTAIN JULIO:  My father owned a fishing boat, so practically my whole life.  I
wanted to have a fishing boat, but there just wasn’t a lot of money in
                                it.

PAGE 5.  PANEL 4.
CAPTAIN JULIO IS LETTING KALLISTE INTO THE DOOR OF THE CHOW HALL.

KALLISTE:  You shouldn’t give up on your dreams.

CAPTAIN JULIO:  Yes, but my wife wanted more, and this was more lucrative.  I’d do
anything to make her happy.  So if the decision came up one million
times, I would make the same decision.

KALLISTE:  You’re sweet.  Foolish, but sweet.

PAGE 5.  PANEL 5.
THE CAPTAIN AND KALLISTE ARE SITTING, FOOD IS BEING BROUGHT TO THEM.

PAGE 6.  PANEL 4.
KALLISTE IS HOLDING GLENDA AS SHE IS CRYING.

GLENDA:  She told me not to come work here.  That she would make my life hell.  I
didn’t know when she would do it, or if she even would.  I hate feeling
ashamed Kel.  I just want to yell that it was her piece of shit husband on the

KALLISTE:  What do you say, I take the brunette, and you can have the blondie?

GLENDA:  I don’t know who wants to suck their cock more, me or the old war vets.

KALLISTE:  Give them a break.  A good fight get’s the blood going, but in there case
that could kill them.  They just miss it, and want to surround themselves
                      with it.

PAGE 7.  PANEL 4.
GLENDA LIGHTS UP A CIGARETTE.

GLENDA:  I could do with a tussle, believe me.

KALLISTE:  How many?

GLENDA:  Alice, Karrie, and Debra.

CAPTAIN JULIO:  Most likely.  But who am I to begrudge someone an orgasm?  Life is
too short for me to care what you do in a bedroom.

KALLISTE:  Most men would say a woman is slut for sleeping around.

PAGE 9.  PANEL 3.
THE CAPTAIN LIGHTS A PIPE.

CAPTAIN JULIO:  Most men are hypocrites who like to control everything around them
                                 while claiming freedom for themselves.

                       agenda?

PAGE 9.  PANEL 4.
THE CAPTAIN BLOWS OUT SMOKE.

CAPTAIN JULIO:  The feminist have an agenda?  I would like to see this.  They seem
like any other group:  they desire something, so they fight for it.  I
didn’t know you needed an agenda to fight for equality, or your
                                 rights.

KALLISTE:  Where were you my whole life?

CAPTAIN JULIO:  On this ship.
